House Prayer

House Prayers in the Mar Thoma Church are organised, fellowship‑oriented gatherings conducted regularly in the homes of church members. These meetings aim to foster spiritual growth, strengthen parish fellowship, and facilitate pastoral care. Led by ordained clergy or designated prayer group leaders, the services typically include devotional singing, Scripture readings, intercessory prayers, and reflections, thereby nurturing a reverent “church‑in‑the‑home” environment.
House prayers are commonly arranged through Area Prayer Groups / Edavaka Mission and follow a structured format that includes prayers for the host family, the parish, and the wider society. These gatherings also serve as an important pastoral ministry, enabling the Vicar and church leaders to maintain meaningful contact with families, support them spiritually, and strengthen communal bonds within the parish.
This ministry reflects the biblical understanding of “the church in the house,” affirming that Christian worship and discipleship extend beyond the church building into everyday life. In addition to regular prayer meetings, special house prayer services are conducted for occasions such as house blessings, anniversaries, and during times of special need or thanksgiving.
All members of the parish, including children, are encouraged to participate actively in their respective area prayer meetings, fostering spiritual formation, unity, and active Christian witness within the parish community.
